I heard a rumor in passing a while back that ALL bikes would be following CA's standards on emissions. Can anyone verify?

On a sidenote...why can't Suzuki get with the frickin program and put a center up exhaust on their 1000? It's great how all the other rice rockets are going for a streamline look and suzuki...frickin suzuki...decides that the cannon wasn't cutting it so they switch it out for a missile silo. :slap

I haven't heard a thing about any other states following Cali's nazi emission standards.

As far as Suzuki and the center exhaust, why would they? They found a conventional style exhaust weighed less and kept the center of gravity lower and a couple other advantages so why go backwards and copy what everyone else is doing with their ugly exhaust?

my opinion: center up looks better. looks most definitely aren't everything, I know. Also it's totally a mental thing for me but i'm one of those "things must be symmetrical" type of guys.

also my opinion: i don't know that it's necessarily going backwards...i know they increased the angle to give comparable lean angle, but i really don't see that many advantages to it.

Besides, if it's good enough for the Italians it's good enough for the japanese, no?

Basically I want a GSX-R, but i get hung up on that one thing. I love the ergos...the power...the fairing design...but ARGH THAT STUPID CAN ON THE SIDE!!! :)

i hope you are right and the rumor i heard was nothing more than heresay regarding the emissions

If you have to have a underseat exhaust on a Gixxer, there are a couple of companies out there that make them. They put some pretty crazy bends in the pipes to get it under the seat. Besides looks, another good reason for the underseat exhaust is crash-ability...they're much more likely to survive a crash tucked under and inside the subframe.

That would not be hard to get around, get a PC3 and slip on or full exhaust!

Straighter the exhaust gases go out the better. More bends = less power. Maybe
that why? Slowzuki's need all the power they can get!!! :banme

Yeah..the bandits and I hear the GXSR and Busa's have what is called a P.A.I.R. system. The guys usually just remove it. No harm done and drops about 3 lbs.

I don't care for the center up exhaust. I'm glad Suzuki and Kawi (ZX10) don't have it. Don't you get tired of a cookie cutter bike? They all perform basically the same, at least they could look different.

I don't think a bike that has a center up makes it like the rest of the bikes out there... there are so many other components that make all the bikes different. The yami r1 is center up exhaust but is so different than the 1000RR honda which is also center up, which is so different from the ducattis.

My position, again, is that I like the gixxer for all the unique characteristics in terms of looks, ergos (especially compared to my honda), power (again, especially compared to my honda), but wish that that one single component of it were different. I don't like difference for the sake of difference. Looks are subjective, and I was just sharing a gripe on my opinion of the sidecan.

There is an article in today's newspaper "Automakers challenge California polllution law"(business section). Basically says companys are fed up with Cali's b.s. Make it standard across u.s. or stuff it. So maybe bike makers might stand back and see what happens. Oh, center up exhaust? "Now take this exhaust, and swing it, see how heavy it is?.. ..mass centalization....." thanks Eric, you know, I still believe.
