Take the Motorcycle Safety Foundation Beginning Rider Course (BRC). After you take that, come back and ask questions.

God no....Im looking to spend between $4000-$6000 AT MOST. Im buying used. If there is one thing I was sure about it was not to buy a new bike right off the assembly line with my lack of riding experience. I suppose I should have said "new to me." I dont expect to get anything newer than 2002 GSXR or CBR.

LOL...seems like everyone's buying these lately. Any chance it's the orange/tribal-flame color?

MSF Basic is the first place to start if you're new to riding.

Here are some good books for a new rider:

Oh, it is...we're just not in a condescending mood right now.

You should really consider a used bike for your first. But if you have the money to throw away on a bike you'll probably wreck, that's your decision.

That's not meant to be offensive. I wrecked my first bike (not even a front-line sportbike, a YZF600R) 2 months after buying it. A buddy of mine has f'd up his new 675 twice now, and he's actually OVER-careful when he rides.

It's not a good ride unless someone's walking funny the next morning.

Soon as they see one person say they'll be fine, they go get it. Sometimes we see a post a month later "I wrecked my bike", sometimes nothing.

Yeah if this is your first bike a new GSXR will more than likely endup layin on its side on the side of the highway. I totaled my first bike. It was brand new and only had 600 miles on it when I went down. I thought I was getting pretty good and she put me on my ass. So after six months in a wheelchair (broken leg and broken arm) and 3 months of rehab to get my hand back working I got another bike (another brand new bike) and I still have it to this day. Never went down on it or anything. I just upgraded to a CBR about 2 months ago.

there 150% right! you will wreck. you will probably drop it doing something stupid too. like pushing it through your garage and not noticing the kickstand rolled up. simple mistake, you'll learn your lesson and you'll also regret that new bike decision when you find out that its gonna cost a few grand to replace the broken farings, clip-on, mirror, windscreen, stator cover(which will crack easy on a gixxer, I replaced one that broke after the brand new bike fell over) etc.

Hey Modaragamage that's a very nice starter bike you bought there. I would take a safety course if you haven't yet. stay off the front breaks on turns, make sure the bike is in level ground before you put the kickstand and keep it in gear. Always do the speed limit. Respect the power of the bike and you will do great. Learn the bike. so ride ride ride.
