So I've heard, and I certainly believe it, but on such a short trip, we didn't do much exploring. Meant to hit Hellbender, but that didn't happen. Just means we'll have to take another trip

There's something for everyone out there. The Dragon itself is a very unique road. What you don't know if you've only seen pictures is that it literally goes up the side of a mountain. You don't get a true sense of incline in photographs. It's also hairpin after hairpin. It's one of those road where if you're doing the speed limit the whole way, you're doing pretty good on it.

Hellbender has its share of sharp turns, but it's nowhere near as intense...you get more time to breathe between each series of switchbacks.

If high-speed sweepers is your thing, there's the Cherohala Skyway. 50 miles of nothing (literally...gas up before you go) but sweeper after sweeper. They say it's more dangerous than the Dragon because you pick up a ton of speed and there's one or two turns on the NC side that look like ordinary sweepers but cinch up on you. The view is epic.

And if you need a break with something more scenic, there's plenty of open road across the Tellico Plains.

That's the loop we usually run when we go up there. Something for everyone.

We did Devil's Triangle last time we were there...that's a road I would be fine never going back to, though. That area has a very "Silent Hill" feel. I kept expecting Pyramid-Head to clothesline me off my bike and rip my flesh off. Wild, though, if you just take it easy and cruise through.

If .ws does a run, I would be down. Best time to go, though, is in fall or in early spring. Summer is tourist/squid season.

LOL...28 is the best way into town...28 to 143 through Robbinsville. One time we went, the guy who was hauling all our bikes took his RV, trailer in tow, over the Cherohala and damn near burned out his tranny.

It's the mountains, though...there's probably all kinds of undiscovered roads through appalachia if you knwo where to look. Thing is, both TN and NC seem to keep up US 129 very well. The pavement quality is outstanding.

Some more highlights from the trip!

Leaving Cinci:

Stuck in a traffic jam north of Knoxville:

At the Overlook, happy to have finally arrived! I'm in the middle, Finley is on the left, and Jacob is on the right:

One of many amazing views on the Skyway, and shamelessly showing off the g/f

too bad you didn't get to ride 276 from waynesville to brevard...put it on your list of things to do.
